Parks and Recreation debuted the York Surf Club this May. We anticipate a second enrollment session in July and August. Initially the YSC will be meeting weekly. The YSC is open to High School aged students who live in York. New and experienced surfers are welcome to join and spread the stoke. Participation is free. Funding is available to equip ten surfers with a wetsuit, booties, gloves, and surfboard.
School Year Club Enrollment
The club enrolls 10 students for the fall season and will take on additional club members in the spring if funds allow. The club will meet weekly from September 15 - November 10 on Monday afternoons at 2:30 p.m. and from May 4 - June 29. The club is limited to 10 new members a year so register early!
The Surf Club is excited to announce that a donor who wants to give more women the opportunity to surf has offered to fund two additional spots for women during the spring session. If you are interested in one of those spots, please complete the Surf Club Registration below.
Interest Meetings
Do you think you want to join the club? While the long term plans for the club will be developed in collaboration with club participants, we created a plan for 2025 to help jump-start the club. There are no interest meetings scheduled at this time.
Requirements
Club members will be expected to complete the following requirements to receive the full benefits of a wetsuit, booties, gloves, surfboard and club t-shirt.
- Swim Test - All club members must be able to swim 100 yards, tread water for 60 seconds, and pull themselves onto a surfboard in overhead water. The swim tests will take place in September at the first club session.
- Lessons/Surfing - The club will meet weekly from September 15 - November 10 and May 4 - June 29 on Monday afternoons at 2:30 p.m. Our hope is that these weekly surf sessions will be a fun way for instructors and more experienced members to help members who are new to the sport learn the basics through intermediate skills.
