The Action White

Empowering York teens through leadership, service, and adventure.

 

What is The Action?

The Action is a year-round program designed for York students in grades 7–12, offering safe, social, and enriching experiences that help teens connect, grow, and lead. Whether you are interested in outdoor adventure, creative expression, skill-building, or community leadership, The Action provides positive outlets and real-world opportunities to get involved.

Teens can sign up for trips and events or take their involvement further by applying to become Action Leaders who help plan and lead activities.

Scholarships

Everyone Belongs at The Action

We believe everyone should have access to fun, safe, and enriching experiences -regardless of cost. If the program fee is a barrier, scholarships are available. Email Parks and Recreation Director Peter Murray at pmurray@yorkmaine.org to learn more and apply.

Are you ready to take your involvement to the next level? Becoming a Leader means getting paid to mentor others, helping plan activities, and creating unforgettable experiences. Leaders gain valuable leadership skills, earn community service recognition, and play a key role in shaping The Action.

Kayaking Poster Updated

Half-Day Kayaking Trip - Grades 7-8
Wednesday, September 23rd

Take advantage of a school half day and the beautiful September weather by paddling the York River. All equipment and instruction included. The Parks & Rec van will pick up at the Middle School immediately after school and parents can pick up at the Parks & Rec Department, 200 US Rte 1.

REGISTRATION: Ongoing

Mt Chororua

Mount Chocurua Hiking Trip

Mount Chocorua is a 3,490 foot rocky peak in New Hampshire's White Mountains known for its 360-degree summit views, steep rock scrambles, and stunning reflections from nearby Chocorua Lake.  This is a challenging 8-mile hike that may take up to 6 hours to complete and may be difficult for some.

Gunstock Option 2

Middle School Ski Club

The Action is once again sponsoring the York Middle School Ski Club.  Come ride with us at Gunstock Mountain on 6 Wednesday evenings from January through March.  The Parks & Recreation van will pick up after school and return to York at 9:00pm.  Ski and snowboard rental equipment is available as part of the ski club program.  Limited space available, so sign up early.

Intro to Rock Climbing

Intro to Outdoor Rock Climbing & Camping - Grades 9-12
Saturday & Sunday July 18th & 19th

Join us for a guided introduction to an outdoor rock-climbing adventure and camping trip to Pawtuckaway State Park. Transportation and all necessary equipment is provided.

Folk Festival

Lowell Folk Festival - Grades 9-12

Come experience the historic Lowell Folk Festival for a fun day of concerts and fair-type activities.
