Enrichment - Why is it important?
Enrichment programming plays a crucial role in community development by providing individuals with opportunities to learn, grow, and connect. These programs foster personal and social development, encourage lifelong learning, and promote physical and mental well-being. By offering a diverse range of activities, from arts and crafts, to STEM, to fitness and educational workshops, enrichment programs help participants discover new interests, develop valuable skills, and build meaningful relationships. At York Parks and Recreation, we are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for our community through engaging and accessible enrichment opportunities.
Interested in volunteering?
We're always looking for volunteers to help us provide high quality programming. All volunteers must complete a Background Check Authorization Form and submit to our office before beginning.
Hot Wheels Garage - Ages 5-8
Hot Wheels Garage - Ages 5-8
Playing with cars is FUN! And it’s beneficial for child development. Playing with toy cars provides an opportunity for the development of social skills and aids in emotional and physical development. During this 5-week session, we will build a variety of tracks, create life-like destinations, and create scenarios such as racing, crashing, oil changes, and more. Some structure will be provided, but participant imagination will be the “driving” force in this program. Participants are invited to bring their favorite Matchbox/Hot Wheels cars & trucks, but there will also be plenty of cars and props available to share. We hope you will plan to join Recreation Coordinator, Andy Kaherl (a real-life race car driver) for this fun-filled creative play program. Each participant will receive a Hot Wheels car on the first day.

Surf Camp - Ages 6-9 - Liquid Dreams Surf Shop
Surfing Camp - Ages 6-9
Learn to surf with the Liquid Dreams surf team. Your instructor will guide you through the fundamentals of surfing. They will cover paddling, wave selection, how to stand and how to ride the waves. Surfing etiquette, ocean awareness, and beach safety will also be discussed. Classes will be offered in the morning from 8:00am-9:00am in the surfing area at Long Sands Beach. Please be sure to arrive by 7:45am. All equipment and supplies will be provided by Liquid Dreams surf shop, however, if you own your own board or wetsuit feel free to bring it to class.

Surf Camp - Ages 10 & Up - Liquid Dreams Surf Shop
Surfing Camp- Ages 10 and Up
Learn to surf with the Liquid Dreams surf team. Your instructor will guide you through the fundamentals of surfing. They will cover paddling, wave selection, how to stand and how to ride the waves. Surfing etiquette, ocean awareness, and beach safety will also be discussed. Classes will be in the evenings from 5:00pm-7:00pm in the surfing area at Long Sands Beach. Please be sure to arrive by 4:45pm. All equipment and supplies will be provided by Liquid Dreams Surf Shop, however, if you own your own board, feel free to bring it to class. You have a choice of 3 different weeks, but classes are limited, so be sure to sign up for one of them now!

Wild Wonders at Mount Agamenticus - Ages 5-8
Wild Wonders at Mount Agamenticus - Ages 5-6 and Ages 7-8
Join us for an exciting nature camp at Mount Agamenticus, where we'll be creating, observing, and crafting while learning about the natural world. Each day, we'll embark on a themed adventure to grow our observational skills as we explore the wild communities we're all a part of! Our team at Mount Agamenticus will guide campers through activities, focusing on Leave No Trace principles and preparing for outdoor adventures. This camp is perfect for kids who love to explore, create, and get curious about nature.
Please bring a snack and plenty to drink; plus sunscreen and bug spray, if your family has personal preferences!
Dress appropriately for the weather and wear safe footwear (no flip-flops).
In case of inclement weather, activities will be held indoors.
